“Manthan” – A Social Immersion Journey
“Manthan” – a Social Immersion Programme, is a collaborative initiative between DES’s J S Kothari Business School (JSKBS), Mumbai, and Jankalyan Samiti Vasti Parivartan Yojana. This groundbreaking program aims to instill social consciousness among our PGDM students through direct engagement with communities.
The inaugural session of Manthan took place on December 12th at JSKBS, where a momentous Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between DES’s J S Kothari Business School and Jankalyan Samiti.
During the event, Shri Sandeep Welling, President of Jankalyan Samiti Vastiparivartan Yojana, emphasized the urgent need for such initiatives, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In a poignant address, Shri Dr. Ajit Marathe, President of Jankalyan Samiti Maharashtra Prant, urged students to reflect on the essence of humanity and connect with the challenges faced by fellow citizens from socio-economically weaker sections.
Shri Sanjay Malkar, Project Secretary, presented an overview of Jankalyan Samiti’s activities, while Shri Sahdev Sonawane shared operational details. Dr. Giribala Dewasthale, In-Charge Director of DES’ JSKBS, stressed the importance of sensitizing students to the social realities of our country, emphasizing that business organizations are integral parts of a larger social context.
The event witnessed enthusiastic student participation, as they listened with rapt attention to the inspiring talks.
DES’ JSKBS, committed to the holistic development of its students, views the Manthan initiative as another crucial step in that direction. Social immersion programs offer PGDM students a unique learning experience beyond the classroom, promoting cultural sensitivity, breaking stereotypes, and fostering a deep understanding of diverse backgrounds. Ultimately, these experiences shape our students into better human beings and responsible citizens.
The Manthan – Social Immersion Programme will be mentored by distinguished JSKBS faculty members: Dr. Parikshit Mahankal, Prof. Dikshit Kothari, Prof. Maria Achary, and Prof. Divya Thakur. This initiative stands as a testament to our commitment to nurturing socially aware and responsible leaders for tomorrow.
