Report on Global Immersion visit to Malaysia
Date: 17th September 2024 - 20th September 2024
The visit included the following:
1. Royal Selangor (Pewter Manufacturing factory):
The company is one of the oldest companies in Malaysia and they specialize in manufacturing Pewter, which is tin like material, they make customized items like glasses,daily use utensils, fancy cabinet trophies and many more designs. The students could
firsthand observe processes like smelting, molding, designing etc. They learnt in detail about the manufacturing and explored the showroom at Selangor where prize articles were kept.
2. Bens Ethicoa (Chocolate Manufacturing):
Ben’s factory is an excellent case study of supply chain management as the raw materials were sourced from distant places like India, Indonesia etc. the students observed the way cocoa was dried, roasted, processed and finally converted into chocolates of different forms and flavours, the students also gorged on the sample freshly prepared chocolates and learnt how the chocolates are branded and exported worldwide.
3. East Coast Batik- Batik Chong (Textile and Traditional Art):
The students visited the locally made textile outlet featuring Batik fashion clothes,there they understood the intricacies of design and also explored how traditional fashion has manifested into modern designs.
In between all this, students got a chance to visit the magnificent twin towers of Petronas, they also visited the KL tower which stands at a massive 421 metres
They also observed that, India has a lot of cultural influence on the Malaysians with many
roads bearing name of Raja Chola and also the famous Batu caves, which is famous for it’s Lord Murugan temple.
The cherry on top of the cake was visit to Genting Highland where the students saw an entirely different world from top of the world! They took the cable ride to reach the top and were treated to a spectacle at World’s largest hotel and the array of shops, amusement parks and entertainment facilities which enthralled them.
The trip concluded with the students reflecting on the cultural diversity and technological advances observed in a foreign country and contemplating how it can be inculcated in Indian
context.
